PhD position: Multi-Scale Fatigue Modelling of Out-of-Autoclave Composite Materials
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRPs) composite materials are increasingly used in load-carrying structures owing to their high stiffness and strength and low weight advantages. Due to their inherent anisotropic nature, the fatigue behavior of FRPs is not well understood. The scope of the PhD proposal will focus on developing an understanding of the uncertainties in the micro-structure of Out-of-Autoclave (OOA) FRPs and development of a multi-scale multi-physics stochastic FE based model for the prediction of the fatigue life and damage behavior of these structures.
