The Composites Research Network (CRN) recently attended the 19th International Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM19), held in Montreal, Quebec, from July 28th to August 2nd 2013.
Dr. Anoush Poursartip, Director of CRN, and Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia, opened the conference with a plenary address entitled 50 Years of Advanced Composites Research and Innovation: A Canadian Perspective chronicling the history of the composites industry with a focus on the Canadian experience in honour of Dr. Ken Street, the 2011 ICCM Scala Award recipient.
ICCM also provided a platform for the CRN to demonstrate the Knowledge in Practice Centre, a web-based framework designed to organize Knowledge in Practice Documents (KPDs), which capture composite manufacturing and design knowledge in practice for use by academia partners and industry members. Visitors to the CRN booth in the exhibition hall were able to browse a working demonstration version of the Knowledge in Practice Centre and learn about the benefits of participation in CRN.
