The Composites Research Network (CRN) is a knowledge creation, translation and application network. The primary mission of the CRN is to support and grow the composites industry and supply chain in Western Canada and beyond, by improving capabilities in design, manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul. It does this by bringing together academic and industry knowledge to solve specific challenges. Best-practice solutions can then be shared with other industry partners facing similar challenges.
A core function of the network is to produce Knowledge in Practice Documents (KPDs). These documents enable the sharing of generic knowledge and provide a starting point for further development. CRN participants are able to access the KPDs as well as training facilities, materials and events, and can benefit from linkages to key national and international organizations and institutions.
The CRN is a sustainable solution to the needs of composites companies and promotes a structured approach that reflects the complementary roles of knowledge creation, training and education, and knowledge application and product development. Sharing generic knowledge can speed learning and benefit many companies simultaneously. The initiative also encourages private-sector investment in research and development, which is an essential ingredient for stimulating industrial innovation and productivity.
